It seems like every time a blogger mentions a tablet’s rear camera, they make some kind of sarcastic comment about how stupid it is to have a rear camera on a tablet. An example from pocketnow:
The TouchPad Go also featured a couple of other features not included in it’s older brother – GPS, soft-touch back, and a rear facing camera. Granted the last entry on a tablet makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little bit, but not many tablets at the time had a rear facing camera, so it’s worth mentioning.
I say, can we let this "tablets don’t need rear-facing cameras" thing go already? The reason tablets need rear-facing cameras isn’t for taking pictures (unless you just happen to be using your tablet when an alligator-juggling clown on a bicycle rides by), it’s for things like document scanning, QR codes, and banking apps (i.e., depositing checks). I’ve used the cameras on my tablets quite a bit, and never yet for taking a picture.
Obviously this is a pet peeve of mine, but I just felt like something needed to be said. Thanks, and rant over.
